The client was unsatisfied with the facade of a 45 000m2 housing block in the west of Moscow, that was already under construction. In the process of redesigning the facade we changed the volume of the entire building and rearranged the apartments.The L – shape block is oriented to a green boulevard on the east side, the north side is adjacent to a busy street. The east side dwellings are provided with loggias, the facades facing the inner courtyard have balconies facing south and west. The lay-out of the small jumping balconies
in the courtyard is meant to prevent spontaneous glazing and bricking-up by the tenants The prefabricated concrete facade panels are finished with tiles, layed out in stripes of 7 different colours. This pattern gives the building a warm, “woody” appearance, gives a human scale to the 23 stories high humungous building mass. The joints between the tiles and panels
were kept the same 13mm to camouflage its prefabricated nature.

The complex is fully prefabricated: Walls, floor slabs, facade panels. Appartments are absolutely minimized, probably the smallest piece of property one can purchase near moscow.

0638 SKIDOM SKI COMPLEX, MOSCOW

The first indoor skiing facility in moscow is located at the outer highway ring close to the expo center. As part of a new housing development it also contains a shopping mall with various shops and restaurants, a congress center, children play room and other sport functions like skating rink, bowling alley, spa and fitness center. It opened in spring 2008.

0752 TULA LEISURE CENTER, Tula

A new entertainment center, the opposite situated art museum and a square in between will form the new entrance situation to the main public park in Tula. It will be one of the main attraction points for the city in the future. A public route through the interior of the building is connecting all program not only physically but also visibly. At present the square in front of the building offers no linger qualities but a dried out fountain from soviet time. We will redesign the square and add terraces, playgrounds, open air movie theater, beach and a bowl for the people coming to the park each day.

We were asked to design the interior of a showroom for exclusive italian doors and furniture. The 250m2 space in a Stalin era building previously housed a travel agency. The continuous glass facade was wrapped with images from places of desire producing a gloomy atmosphere
inside. Labyrinth of partition walls and many layers of former beautifications made the client very sceptic about the potential of the space. At the time he was running his business in two tiny rooms in the back of the space.After clearing out the partition walls it became apparent that expanding 10 times in size while keeping the same amount of staff produced in itself a notion of luxury. The areas of meeting room, lounge, bar, offices and entrance became one continuous space. We thought of creating a showroom where the precious pieces on sale would be set against a rough, unsmoothened, unpolished, unexpected materials and everything visible could potentially be sold. As a surplus result these building materials are selling as well.

A former sanatorium of the Ministry of Warfare is to be converted into a holiday resort for Sberbank employees. The 30 Ha site is situated 50 km west of Moscow, at the bank of Moskva-river overlooking the city of Zvenigorod. Program of 35000m2 includes renovation and reuse of 13 buildings from different time periods, from the 19th century to the Soviet 60-ies, and new construction of a hotel complex for 220 people, sport center, aquapark and 13 cottages.

This satellite part of Moscow, situated on the two sides of Leningradskoje shosse, has been subjected to large commercial development in the past years. This development was related to the highway, that only strengthened the division between the two parts and brought little for the inhabitants of Chimky, but traffic jams and air pollution. By revitalizing the existing park we aim to create a new green center of the west side, around which a new small scale local commercial development would emerge.

The ambition of the project is to create a settlement, whose qualities emerge from its location. Taking full advantage of the site and reinforcing its specificity by architecture we intend to upgrade the qualities of both. Either hidden beneath the pine trees, or standing in a carefully maintained park or overlooking the calm water, the houses of Orelski Lodging will reveal a new beauty of living in nature.The project intends to challenge the brutal way of urbanizing the open space by introducing a dialog with nature, which is precise and deliberate in its terms. In our case filling up the open landscape with built matter is not an offence of nature but a graceful complement to it.

The new type of estate combines in itself the elegance of a modernist villa, the laisse-fair of a datcha and the landscape setting of an estate. The house has two levels. The shared zone on the ground floor extends over the whole plot and consists of open landscape rooms and closed (covered) house rooms. Different landscape rooms can either be maintained and gardened or left in their natural beauty depending on a the dwellers wish. Above it there is a floating sleeping box with four bedrooms, each one of them a separate dwelling, providing for isolation and intimacy.

This project examines the kitchen as a phenomenon of luxury. A new notion of kitchen is established through its liberation from existing typological, functional and programmatical obligations. New kitchen performances reshape the living environment revealing its latent qualities.A number of scenarios are proposed, showing how the kitchen can interact with the lifestyle of its user. These scenarios break the typical lay-out by integrating the kitchen into the entire house.The kitchen unit itself is based on a generic block. Made of a single high technological material it can vary in temperature, light and transparency. Imprints offer different and exchangeable textures.A catalogue extends commonly used equipment in kitchens with new and traditional elements ranging from preparation, storage, cooking and serving to integrated furniture.
